According to sources in the Dasht-e-Qala district of northeastern Takhar province, a 24-year-old woman who had been forced into a marriage without her consent committed suicide.
The woman, who has not been named, hanged herself and ended her life in the Kaghi village of Dasht-e-Qala on Friday night.
The woman’s father had forced her to engage with her cousin.
She was a Hafiz, who had memorized Quran entirely, the source added.
The Taliban police in the province have not commented.
Afghanistan has seen a sharp rise in suicide rates since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021. Women and girls are particularly at risk.
Forced marriage, domestic violence, and mental health problems are among the major reasons for suicide cases in the country.
