45 year old man takes his life in Faryab amid continuing rise in suicide across Afghanistan

A source from the Taliban security command in northern Faryab province reported that a 45-year-old man, identified as Gholam Sakhi, took his own life by hanging himself in the Qurghan district on Thursday.

According to the source, the incident occurred in his residence in the village of Kohna Qurghan in the Qurghan district.

The motive behind the suicide remains unknown, but the source said that the victim had been struggling with drug addiction.

Suicide cases have been on the rise in various provinces of Afghanistan, particularly in the north, in recent months. In the past three days alone, there have been reports of three women committing suicide in Faryab and Daykundi provinces.

The main factors contributing to suicide incidents in the country are believed to be poverty, unemployment, mental illness, addiction, and family violence.
