Taliban accused of detaining former security personnel in Parwan province

Local sources in Sheikh Ali district of Parwan province have accused the Taliban’s newly-appointed district governor, Mashoqullah Badr, of detaining members of the former security forces and demanding weapons from them.

One source told KabulNow on Friday, on condition of anonymity, that Taliban fighters break into the homes of former security forces who served under the previous government, arresting them and demanding weapons.

Local sources reported that a resident of Sheikh Ali known as Wahidullah, a former police officer who had served in Paktia province, was arrested and asked to provide two AK-47s, a pistol, and a mine detector in return for his release.

Wahidullah was released when he provided the Taliban with what they had asked, using his family connection with the former Taliban district governor for Sheikh Ali.

Mashoqullah Badr confirmed the arrest of two former military officers in the recent week, who he said remain at large. The governor indicated that there is enough evidence to validate their arrest.
