Gold mine collapse kills 3 and injures 11 in Takhar province

Local Taliban officials in Takhar province say that three miners have been killed as a result of a gold mine tunnel collapse in the Khwaja Ghar district of the province.

Mohammad Ismail Farooq, the Taliban district governor of Khwaja Ghar, said that the incident happened on Sunday afternoon.

Farooq said 21 workers were working in the mine at the time of the collapse, three of whom were killed and 11 others were injured.

This is not an isolated incident. Non-standard mining and disregard for safety precautions are among the reasons miners lose their lives across Afghanistan.
