Blast Targets Anti-Polio Campaigner in Nangarhar

A blast hit the riding vehicle of Samim, who is leading the polio vaccination program in the eastern Nangarhar province, according to local sources. The incident took place on Saturday, October 22, around 11:00 AM local time.

A source, who chooses to stay anonymous, told Kabul Now that the incident took place in the “Kahi Bazar” area of ​​Achin district of the province.

The source said that the explosives were placed in the car carrying the polio campaigner. The blast only injured Samim “severely” and does not have any other casualty.

Local Taliban security officials have also confirmed this incident, adding that an investigation is underway to probe the incident.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Polio vaccinators and eradication staff have been targeted in Nangarhar previously as well.
