A roadside blast killed 10 civilians including women and children yesterday, December 13, in Jaghatu district of the southern province of Ghazni. The blast left six others injured.
Ahmad Khan Sirat, spokesperson for Ghazni police chief, confirmed that the incident took place at about 9:30 am in Qiyagh valley of Jaghatu district. Those who were killed were travelling from Daikundi to Ghazni.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast. The Taliban, however, have a long record of cultivating roadside bomb in the region.
On the other hand, the Taliban militants carried out an attack on Valige area of Qarabagh district of Ghazni last night, and killed 23 Territorial Army forces – a newly established pro-government local force.
Khaleqdad Akbari, a member of Ghazni Provincial Council, confirmed the attack. Mr. Akbari said that Taliban have captured weapons of those fighters who were killed in the attack.
The Afghan Ministry of Defense, in a statement, said that nine members of Afghan National Army were killed in a raid conducted by the Taliban in Qarabagh district.
The southern province of Ghazni is insecure and the Taliban militants control all Pashtun populated districts of the province.
