Tamana Jahan and Nazimah Khairzad are the two first women who climbed the peak of the Koh-e-Baba mountain, known as Shah-e-Foladi peak, according to the office of the Bamyan governor.
The two female climbers are from Balkh and Bamyan provinces.
The female mountaineers climbed the Foladi peak, which is 5,140 meters above sea level, on Sunday, April 11, the office of Bamyan governor said in a statement. As per the statement, the female mountaineers had started mountaineering exercises with the Afghan Peak mountaineering group.
“They were part of an 8 member team of Afghan climbers from Kandahar, Badakhshan, Balkh, Ghazni, and Bamiyan provinces,” the Afghan Peaks said in a Facebook post. The teams were led by Sayed Alishah, technical in charge of the group, and Mohammad Hussain Yasa, founder of the Afghan Peaks.
Meeting the climbers, Atiqullah Atiq, deputy governor of Bamyan, described the successful summit of the female mountaineers as an important achievement in the area of mountaineering in Afghanistan.
Afghan women have made significant achievements in mountaineering in recent years.
