Afghanistan’s sericulture revives

Afghanistan has produced 1,099 kilograms of silk in the 1399 (solar year), the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said today, Tuesday, April 06.

With producing 750 kilograms of silk, the northern province of Jawzjan stands on the top. Followed by Jawzjan, Nangarhar, Herat, and Balkh produced the largest quantity of silk in the year 1399, according to the Ministry.

Located in the ancient Silk Road, Afghanistan has a long history of sericulture but years of war devastated the country’s silk industry.
