16 IS fighters killed in air strikes in Nangarhar

The Afghan security forces have killed as many as 16 Islamic State-Khorasan Province (IS-KP) fighters in Nangarhar, a statement by the Afghan ministry of defense read.

According to Fawad Aman, the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense, the operation took place around 11:00 pm on Saturday night, 12 October, in Mirkhani village of Pachir Agam district of Nangarhar province.

He added 12 fighters from the Red Unit Taliban were also killed in another airstrike at the same area.

The eastern province of Nangarhar is one of the most insecure provinces where IS-KP fighters have covert operations.

Though last year President Ghani claimed that the group was defeated, reports suggest IS-KP operatives are still present in the province.
