Taliban lash young girl & boy in northern Afghanistan

The Taliban group lashed young girl and boy in the north of the country, said local officials.

Abdul Karim Yourish, spokesperson for police chief of Faryab province, said that the 17-year old Zahra eloped on Friday evening to get in the house of the 20-year old Mohammad Rafiq.

Zahra, who was engaged to a different person, had romance with Mohammad Rafiq. The Taliban caught the young lovers and held a kangaroo court, in which each were sentenced to 50 lashes in Qare-yee village of Almar district of the province.

The Taliban group controls the area where the young lovers live.

The Taliban insurgent controls swaths of the province and the group hold kangaroo courts in the province.
