KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The body of a teacher was found hanging in Jowzjan province, northern Afghanistan, on Friday, adding to the growing number of mysterious killings since the Taliban returned to power.
Local sources identified the victim as 36-year-old Allah Nazar. His body was found hanging from a tree in Sheberghan, the provincial capital, on Friday afternoon.
Allah Nazar was originally from Khwaja Doh Koh district and had been living in Sheberghan in recent years.
The motive behind his death remains unclear. Local Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the incident.
This case comes amid a recent rise in violent crime and unexplained killings across Afghanistan, with similar incidents reported in several provinces.
Data from Etilaatroz and KabulNow indicate that at least 60 people, including women, were mysteriously killed in the country last month.
As these incidents increase, many Afghans are expressing growing concern about public safety and worsening security, despite Taliban claims of restoring order since their return to power.
Human rights groups and civil society activists say the Taliban are failing to protect civilians and are not conducting credible investigations into these killings.
